Today is my birthday.
It does not feel like it is my birthday, however, because nothing was really planned. I think having three midterms in two days last week utterly drained me out and left me with no time to ponder over what I should do for my birthday. Fortunately I have a great roommate who took me out to dinner and an awesome friend who drove down from NorCal for a visit this weekend.
Earlier last Friday, my friend Adithya drove down for a visit as well as to celebrate my birthday. It was great because he visited other friends along the way and brought some of his close friends along: there was Ameya, whom I met last year, Krishna and Nikhil, who I met for the first time and Allison, who is a second year at UCSD. They arrived at about 5 o'clock in the afternoon and from then on--the spontaneity begun. We started off with the beach, as anyone else visiting San Diego would, and then went to dinner at Buon Appetito after meticulous picking...or rather, after numerous attempts to go somewhere nice but it did not work out as the wait is too long due to the fact that we did not make reservations. The food was very delicious though. Along with the bread provided, we ordered 5 plates of food and shared a dessert among the six of us which was almost too much for us to handle since its Italian food and so it was all creaming starch. Very filling.
After dinner we headed back to campus and I showed them around Revelle, taking them up to the roof and to Rogers incase they wanted anything to eat or drink for the ride home. We chilled for awhile back in my apartment and then decided to end the night by heading up to Mount Soledad to enjoy the 360 degree view from the top. It was definitely a good way to end the day while we just sat around talking the night away. It was very peaceful and quiet up there with the slight wind and city lights. Finally, we decided it was time to go home so they dropped me off and began their journey back North

On Monday night, the day of my birthday, my friends Lauren and Amy took me out to dinner at Barbarella, somewhere I had been looking at for a long time but had never gotten the chance to try. Great ambiance and great food. Then at some point, my friend Jessica and some of her friends walked by out of no where and when she saw me, started singing Happy Birthday! The waiter heard and offered us creme brulee on the house. It was so out of the blue but it totally made my night. After dinner, we dropped Amy off to dance and headed home.
[The night did not end there]
Little did I know that Lauren had a surprise party waiting for our arrival back in the apartment. She pretended not to find her keys so I would open the door and as soon I stepped in, I was greeted by a dark room with people singing and cupcakes with twenty burning candles. This was my first surprised party ever. I had a huge smile on my face and tried to cover the couple of joyful tears that my friends claim made them feel validated. I made a wish, blew the candles and we all indulged in the yummy chocolate cupcakes made by Riley that is decorated with chocolate frosting and a slice of strawberry on top.

I think this is the most different birthday I had and it was really one of those days where I am reminded, once again, how lucky I am to have all my friends. So, a big Thank You.
Blessed, Yoyo.
